Page 1 of 10: Home Base of Feltre

After training through the Alps from Munich to Venice we got our rental car and drove to the cottage that would be home for the next 10 days. The cottage was in the hills just outside the village of Feltre. We got off on wrong road so we stopped at the grocery for the week's provisions then tried again. We have come to appreciate the traffic roundabouts in Europe since you can keep going around until you find the right road. So after a bit of "round-a-bouting" we finally found it. Our hosts, who run a B&B on the property, greeted us with prosecco and antipasti on the deck overlooking the village in the valley. We were off to a good start!

This was our sixth time in Italy, but our first to this area. We enjoy staying in one place and doing day trips within a two hour driving radius. Our interests are art, history, good wine and food. We find that wandering the countryside exploring small towns rather than big cities suits us best.

Feltre turned out to be a great home base. It is large enough to have several good restaurants to choose from. It has an interesting old town with architecture showing the Venetian influence, a historic theater, castle tower, a small museum and even Roman ruins under the courtyard in front of the cathedral. It is well placed for trips around the Prosecco wine region, the Veneto area and into the foothills of the Dolomites.
